Ayutthaya was the seat of the Kingdom of Siam (now Thailand) from the 14th to 18th century. In its heyday it was a prosperous city that sparkled with splendour thanks to the numerous golden temples built by kings. In 1767, it fell to a Burmese siege and was burned down.
Today, various temples from the time still stand in modern day Ayutthaya, serving as symbols of the former kingdom.
